Bits & Pieces #43

Senate Intelligence Committee chairwoman Diane Feinstein, (D) –CA, did an almost complete turnaround from her previously established position of guardian of the intelligence services, when she led an attack on the CIA for what she described as their attempt to silence and intimidate her committee’s investigation of the Agency’s torture and abuses of prisoners at Guantanamo and other sites around the world.

Feinstein has preciously been among all intelligence service’s staunchest protectors, especially in their battles with whistleblowers.  She has been among the leaders of those calling for the heads of such as Edward Snowden and many others who have followed their moral instincts and revealed the mostly illegal practices of NSA, CIA and others.

Now, when one of her protected services decides that even the cosmetic coverage of her committee is too much and goes after her, she may begin to understand what everyone else is talking about and she has reacted violently, lashing out at the CIA which will undoubtedly react just as violently and do something really stupid. Can’t wait to see how this one gets resolved

Now that all the Republicans have started worrying about getting elected after the primaries the debt ceiling has passed. But why was there ever a thought of its not passing. The Right, which has made this an issue each time it has come up during Obama’s tenure voted to pass it 19 times during and before the Bush administration. How come it was okay then, but a no go when a Democrat was in the White House? The answer is simple. It is, as Christina Van den Heuval says, a manufactured crisis, something that the Right causes to happen for two reasons. The first is to keep the government under Obama from getting anything done and the second is to mask real crisis like unemployment, so they don’t get solved by a Left leaning administration.  It’s all a reason for a discerning public to vote all these obfuscating right-wingers out, if only we had a discerning public.

Jim Deminth and his Tea Party nuts may be going out of what’s left of their minds but they still haven’t learned to tell the truth. Deminth was on Face the Nation, talking about Obama creating more debt than any other president in history. Somehow he has managed to forget how George Bush brought us from a Clinton arrived at surplus to a 17 trillion debt before Obama even approached the White House and left him with the worst recession since the great depression.  Deminth wouldn’t know a fact if it bit off his nose.

The biggest problem on the foreign front has certainly come to be Syria but what’s to be done about it. Does anyone but John McClain really want to invade? So what else is there to do, We seem to have negotiated out the chemical business and they are going to be removed, it says in the fine print.  The problem is that if you put another armed force into the country to stop the fighting, that force will not only kill more people because collateral damage is inherent to any kind of warfare but it will also inherit the problem.  Do we really want another Iraq?  Haven’t we learned that invading a country to get rid of a dictator means we now own that country and all its other problems?

We didn’t pick a friend on the rebel side in the beginning because we didn’t have the intelligence to know who to pick. The NSA and our other intelligence arms were too busy tapping American phones to bother to tap the ones where we already know nothing and should know everything. So al-Qaeda got a strong foothold in the rebel side and now we can’t back them either. What’s the sense of giving them weapons so that they can turn them on our allies when this fight is over? That already happened in Afghanistan with the Russians and us. At some point we have to learn something.

If Syria is going to be solved it has to be by an international force commanded by NATO, or the UN There is no advantage to the US to fight any Syrians because no matter who they are we will be the bad guys. Let the Arab League solve the problem. It is, after all theirs. The money is certainly there to mount a mercenary force to go in and kill enough on each side to get it all under control. That of course, takes will and when it comes to putting their asses on the line the Arabs wave the stars and stripes forever.

What we can do is help with the refugee situation. There are hundreds of thousand of Syrians crowding into the adjoining countries and there is something that can be done for them. We should help with that.

I was watching a discussion on the environment, specifically the extreme conditions of this winter, the drought in the west and the mountainous snows in the east and one of those involved in the discussion made a statement that brought me up short.

“We have to stop treating it as a partisan issue and come together on it,” was the statement by a young climatologist. Sounds nice. Time for Cum-bi-ya but the fact is that it really is a partisan issue.  It doesn’t matter if you see it as climate control or the containing of atmospheric poisoning, it’s still right against left because the stances of the two asides are polar distances apart.

The revelation of papers by Hilary’s assistant are just useless gossip. What we really have to know from  Hilary is what her opinions are on the topics that really mean something to the country. Where does she stand on surveillance, foreign policy, immigration? How will she attack the unemployment problem, infrastructure and inequality. Will she try to do something to regulate Wall Street and constrain big business and how does she stand on restructuring the income tax code. It’s these and many more questions that have to be answered- honestly, if she expects to get the backing of Americans in 2016.

If you’re into irony you need to look no further than some of the results of the ACA and who is taking advantage of it. It seems that Koch industries, plaything of the infamous Koch brothers who have dumped millions into the fight against Obamacare has benefited from it to the extent $1.4 million bucks in subsidies targeted to help employers and states maintain coverage for individuals over 55 who are not yet eligible for Medicare.

Additional funds have been ripped of by other groups who fought hard and dirty to stop the ACA; groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which spends millions to support right wing fanatic causes and those who interfered with various state-run ACA programs across the country. There is truly nothing like right wing greed. Fight the program because you think it will take a few pennies from your overflowing coffers and then take from it when it is successful. These people are lower than whale shit.

All the assholes mumble about the fact that the kid who killed three soldiers at Ft. Hood, saying that he had mental problems. Okay, then why leave him in the middle of a place where weapons are at the ready all the time. This is not a failure of the kid who did this but of the clowns who recognized that he had mental problems and did not protect the kid or those around him. Heads should roll and in large numbers, but we all know that the army will move to protect itself, just like the Church did in the pedophile scandals and nothing will get done. People who are crazy shouldn’t be around guns and that goes even more for civilians.

GM has proven beyond a doubt that corporate culture cares nothing about the consumer or the public as long as their bottom line remains stable. GM has actually killed people by covering up the defect in their cars. Now that the supreme court has ruled that corporations are people, how about putting some of those people who make up corporations that kill, in jail? All we’d have to do is execute just one and it would definitely change the attitude of corporate executives who care nothing for anything but the almighty dollar. Our criminal justice system has become a farce. Everyone who lied about this default or perjured themselves like the head engineer, Ray DiGeorgio , should be behind bars or on trial for murder.

It isn’t just the GM executives who are criminal degenerates but all the Wall Street firms that stole their investors lives by gambling and losing their money. It also includes and was led by our criminal Bush/Cheney administration that lied us into two wars and in Cheney’s case still brags about how that was the right thing.  These are people completely without morals or humanity and they should be treated like the mad dogs they are, and put down.

Rob Portman R-OH was on Fox news last weekend. FOX NEWS! And even on that hack right wing station, he couldn’t make a intelligent point about Obamacare. He attacked it in all the old tired ways the GOP has used since its inception, none of which are provable, but when repeatedly asked what he would replace it with, he sank down the same hole as all the other Republicans who have ranted about a replacement and failed to come up with anything even remotely as good.

Whether or not the intelligence diminished, factually void, right wing deniers want to admit it or not,  Obamacare is working, people in general are benefiting from it in huge numbers and it will be with us for a long time to come. They have bet on the wrong horse once again and isn’t it really time for them to face the reality of their failure?

Right now Obamacare is good for the country. In the long run with a couple of fixes it will be great for the country. It wll save money, improve healthcare and cover the entre population. It’s what’s done in civilized countries.

I know that this will kill hacks like Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and any number of deniers who really don’t belong in government but it’s just the way things are.
