This week gave us a real good view of what the war on terror looks like and how well our bloated Homeland Security forces function when they are confronted by other then unarmed kids with posters.
This is the NRA’s reason for everyone who can walk upright and a few who can’t to carry guns? The civil rights movement, the anti-war movement and OWS have all proved that you can make your point without guns but these fascist knuckle draggers down in Nevada just haven’t gotten the message. The picture from Reuters of the clown in the baseball cap aiming his weapon down at the BLM men is a perfect example of why these guys shouldn’t be allowed to own guns.
The proof of the intellectual failure of the militia movement is that they are out in public defending a deadbeat racist bigot, who refuses to pay his bills to the government, and yet most of them are constantly up in arms over the government giving food stamps to honest men and women who have lost their jobs, many because they had employers like Cliven Bundy, himself.
Bundy’s irrational, disgustingly bigoted rants as to why “nigras” had a better life under slavery and why he should be entitled to graze his cattle for nothing on government land come down to a rationale that, like his mind, is staggeringly simple. Hell, Cliven, we all want to do a lot of things that we don’t, because if we did, we wouldn’t have a civilized society. That’s why we don’t call out the armed assholes to protect us even when we have far more legitimate gripes with the government than your problem with paying your bills.
As for the militias that showed up, well, one can think of about a dozen legitimate charges that can be levied against each of them. The government must follow up on this. The BLM commander who ordered his men to step down, was probably doing the right thing because it seems obvious that the white Nazi Militia bigots that showed up armed to the teeth were spoiling for a fight and we have a lot more on the table in this country right now than making these crackpots into heroes of the wingnut right.
Yes, there are dumb children out there who will think this accumulation of brain dead gun nuts, riding a testosterone overload, generated by the smell of gun powder and too many John Wayne movies are somehow to be admired, but that’s only because they are themselves, the result of the same kind of damaged parentage. Did any of these clowns even realize that they were out there flaunting weapons and thereby putting their own lives in danger to support a deadbeat?
I know none of these clowns are bright enough to realize it but personal freedom is not the freedom to violate the law. It is the right to be free when you are following the law. It is the right to object to a law when you disagree with it but not to break that and other laws when you are disagreeing with them. I realize that this may be too deep a concept for many of my red neck, right wing readers to comprehend but ask your pastor to unravel it for you. Some of them will be able to get a grip on it, I’m sure.
I know that my failure to grasp the reasoning behind grabbing ones guns and trotting out to face the feds for the benefit of a cheap chiseler and a bigot will confuse many who are high on the testosterone scale I’m sure that there are many out there who would love to fill my conceptual vacuum, but in all honesty, they’re just not up to it. Bundy and his buddies have displayed the kind of Americanism that has made us hated across the world, the kind of Americanism that has led us into war after war, none of them for any good reason. This is a country where there are too many assholes whose answer to almost any problem is to pick up a gun and look for an excuse to pull the trigger. That isn’t Americanism, that isn’t patriotism, that isn’t a grasp at freedom. That is simply gross stupidity.
I know that even as I write this, there is almost half a country out there that wonders how I can think the way I do. The answer is in the spokespeople for that half, who blather the way Cliven Bundy does and make it so easy for writers who are not racist bigots to pick them apart.
Bundy is just the latest in a long string of dumb racists to make life very easy for writers like me. They are like manna from heaven and I know as surely as I know that the sun will come up tomorrow that as soon as Bundy crawls back in his hole another will emerge with some new rhetoric, even dumber and more racist than his. I know that a new Tod Akin, or Michelle Bachman, or Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty, or Sara Palin will soon be in the news again, saying something so unbelievably stupid, so outrageously bigoted, so contrary to human belief that it will scream out, demanding to be printed and commented upon, just as I know that a Ted Cruz, a Peter King, a Sean Hannity, a Rush Limbaugh, or a Mitch McConnell will go on record as backing this idiot.
It is such a plethora of riches that one sometimes feels guilty about how easy they make it to mock them. And true to timing and expectations, just when most people are making normal boring statements here’s Cliven Bundy, a writers wet dream; one more stupid person who simply cannot keep his mouth shut. Not only is this jerk a potential felon who refuses to pay for the government grass that his cattle have eaten but he emerges from interviews as a full blown racist. a bigot with zero control of his mouth. He’s just too good to be true!
This is a guy who should be worried about going to jail. I mean, the government spends a lot f time and money sending people to jail who just stand around on the street with posters protesting important things like the abuse of the environment, why shouldn’t they have their sights set on a clown who refuses to pay the government what he owes it and then brings around a bunch of gun toting, testosterone overloaded, half wits to create a showdown with federal Officers.
Of course, instead of dealing with this and just to prove that he is dumber than dirt, Bundy goes on a rant about black people. It’s not that he doesn’t like them. Hell, he thinks everyone should own one. That’s basically the tenor of his comments about how they’d probably be better off as slaves. This leaves the many right wing hacks that have already gone on record as being his supporters in this fight with the government, looking like the assholes they really are.
Sean Hannity lavished praise on the old bigot and now is eating crow. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV), was quick to the support the large mouthed rancher. He now faces the loss of every black vote in the state. Ted Cruz and Rick Perry, both of whom were quick to come to Bundy’s defense in his fight with the BLM have taken divergent paths. Cruz, maybe for the first time in his career is, revealingly silent. Perry has come out condemning Bundy for the racist he truly is.
We all know that the Bundy craze won’t last forever, that soon something else that looks like a better soap seller will emerge onto the front pages and TV screens of the nation, but until it does, all that us writers can do is wait breathlessly for the next Cliven Bundy, to prove that he’s only a skid mark in a long line of Tea Party excrement, who have displayed their ignorance and a determination to prove it, in front of the entire nation.
