There was big news last week about a bunch of archeologists digging up some old bones in Europe that seem to have changed the known history of how man has developed. Actually this shouldn’t be big news at all because it happens almost every time somebody unearths a new set of bones anyplace in the world. This is much like the known history of Benghazi and how it was launched and how it went down and who was responsible. Every time anyone opens his or her mouth, anywhere in the world, the story of Benghazi changes.
Now, according to the NY Times, we have a whole new version. It remains to be seen how the Right will manage to twist this one to make Obama and Clinton appear to be the villains, but I’m sure they won’t be able to resist the attempt. They have, after all, tried this tactic with each new version that has emerged from the twisted intelligence sources that seem to be in the business of telling the CIA nothing but the kind of lies that will make them look like bigger fools each time the story changes.
The latest word, supposedly backed up by a concentrated Times investigation, is that there was no al Qaeda involvement in the attack at all. How can this be? The minions of the Right have assured us that it was definitely al Qaeda and not anyone else and that it was all Obama’s fault for not knowing this or for trying to cover it up. Susan Rice was mocked and almost run put of Washington because of what she said about the infamous video setting up the attack. Now it turns out that the video was exactly the reason for the attack. What everyone now knows is that both Rice, the White House and the Right were all trying to cover up the fact that this was a CIA operation, had little or nothing to do with the State Department and was ill defended because the House had voted down additional funds for its defense.
The real leader of the murderers, it turns out, is a man who was supposedly one of our allies in Libya, a man we had supplied and protected but who is, by his associates own admission, a half crazed, religious fanatic, who backs jihad and is violently against any form of democracy taking root in his country. This is a man who was not even on the CIA radar mainly because he had been a local militia leader on the side of the US backed insurrection. He had no known affiliation with al Qaeda and his, now confirmed, reason for the attack was his fury over that same anti-Muslim video that was originally blamed for the riot that preceded the attack.
We had billed this attack as the most significant since 911 and ironically like 911, which was carried out mostly by Saudi’s, it had been carried out by people our intelligence structure had once trusted. The attack was led not by al Qaeda but by local militias commanded by a chieftain named Abu Khattala, a madman who understood no loyalty or debt but only the rage and hatred displayed by religious fanatics across the world.
Daryl Issa who was the biggest attacker of Rice and the White House on this matter, is now running off at the mouth about how it’s still the White House’s fault and how it had nothing to do with the video. Issa, who stated definitively that it was al Qaeda and that Obama was trying to hide that fact during an election year, was lying then and he’s lying now, trying desperately, to cover up his previous lies. Watching him trying to crawl out from under his old statements that the administration was at fault, is like watching Joe McCarthy have to admit that most of the people he chased weren’t Commies. Neither will come up with any truth.
Issa, in his role as world-class sleaze, refuses to accept any new evidence, still trying to blame Hilary Clinton when almost everyone else acknowledges that State had no responsibility in this mess, that it was a CIA operation, first and foremost and that it was their responsibility to keep the players safe, which they did not. He, Issa, simply tried to use the unfortunate situation to cast untrue blame on the White House and its State Department. Issa is now an acknowledged liar, which some of us have always known, and the kind of coward that doesn’t have the stones to admit when he has been exposed in his lies.
Like most liars, however, Issa is not to be slowed down or stopped by the truth. He switches quickly from Benghazi to Obamacare in declaring it a failed plan, like Benghazi, even before the initial results are in. He needs it to be a failed plan, he wants it to be a failed plan, no matter who it hurts or how many suffer. After all, he has his congressional insurance coverage so what does it matter to him who else is vulnerable. This guy is a disgrace to the human race.
There has been a great deal of discussion in those corners of congress that wish to get back to cooperation between the two parties about how members of congress used to get along despite their differing views of the world. I think that concept is healthy, but how does one get along with people like Issa, Peter King of Long Island. Matt Salmon of Arizona or Ted Cruz, people that one knows are trying to tear down our country, people that will lie, cheat and destroy any program just to achieve their own devious ends. The answer is that in all good conscience, you can’t. These men are evil and regardless of the instinct we should have to embrace our neighbors, whatever their beliefs, these kinds of men stand outside the pale. They are bad for the country, bad for the people and they must be stopped and their careers ended if this country is to survive. Joaquin Castro, Mayor of San Antonio has stated unequivocally that Issa used early, incorrect information, to attack the President and that he now refuses to admit his unsavory acts in that context.
Castro also goes on record as supporting the ACA, explaining, as many intelligent people have before him, that it takes time for a huge program like this to shake out, pointing out that we already have over 1.3 million new enrollees toward the goal of 7 million by May, still an achievable goal.
Benghazi or Obamacare, it doesn’t matter to the far Right. All they care about is that anything even remotely associated with the President must fail. They don’t care how many Americans are hurt by said failure, as long as Obama’s name is associated with it. It’s too bad that we have to have people like that in our government but hopefully the voters will eventually learn who’s on their side and who’s on his own side. It would be nice of they learned that before it’s too late.
