The Republicans love to run up the flag by attacking Obama about his supposedly apologizing to foreign countries about America. Well, sometimes we need to apologize for the dumb and antagonistic things we do but what Obama has really been apologizing for was the dumb and antagonistic behavior of the president who preceded him, the lazy, blundering George Bush who did everything possible to put our nation in a bad light throughout the world. George was too stupid to apologize for himself; somebody had to do it.
Just before the election Mitt Romney, because he had a habit of talking first and thinking or analyzing second accused the President of apologizing to the Libyans for that scurrilous little movie trailer that became an international incident.
The whole thing started with a Cairo embassy statement, issued hours before the Libyan attacks, censuring the anti-Muslim documentary, made in the US that was circulating locally: “We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.”
It was a simple, polite statement made to try to cool off the developing local rage and it was issued before the attack on the embassy.
This is a perfectly reasonable position unless you are a Right wing fanatic who thinks it’s okay to attack any religion unless it’s Christianity. Romney, instead of finding out what was going on, did his best George Bush, dress-up on the carrier, quick draw move and announced that Obama should be ashamed of apologizing to the Arabs for anything. A truly presidential utterance by the Mittster: “It’s disgraceful that the Obama administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”
The facts are that Obama didn’t make the statement. The statement wasn’t in response to the attacks, it was made before them and Obama didn’t apologize to anyone, for anything. The statement came out of the Cairo embassy without White House sanction and when the embassy was subsequently attacked and four US citizens killed Romney was standing there with his head up his ass and a lot more than egg on his face.
Of course, Romney’s not the only one with his head in an embarrassing place. Republican congressmen Jon Kyle, Jim DeMint and James Imhof all jumped on the wagon echoing Mitt’s,
Michelle Bachman-like, running mouth. The thought that people like this could have been running the country again is too frightening to imagine.
But unfortunately that wasn’t the end of it. Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice made the unfortunate mistake of listening to the briefings from our semi-lucid intelligence community and then going on TV to repeat their not so factual facts. This became immediately clear and Rice became the target of every right wing congressional hack that wanted some face time on the tube.
Who else would lead this charge but the Carolina whiner Lindsay Graham and the barely lucid John McCain who began screaming Presidential cover-up and demanding a congressional committee to investigate whatever potential treason the Prez and Ms Rice were involved in.
The fact, that this right wing hysteria is being led by McCain and Graham, shows what a steaming pile of cynical bullshit it really is. Why, you ask? Maybe because Graham and McCain, along with Condoleezza Rice were the principal marketers of the Bush/Cheney weapons of mass destruction lie, that ended up killing not 4 but over 4000 Americans when we entered into a war with Iraq under completely false circumstances. Yes, there were 4 Americans killed at Benghazi and that’s tragic but McCain’s, Graham’s and Condi’s irresponsible lies about WMÅ’s caused the deaths of thousands of our kids, to say nothing of tens of thousands wounded and mentally disabled along with the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi’s. Where he hell was the congressional investigation into that?
And now these two phony reprobates are screaming about this comparatively all but insignificant event. They should be driven out of congress. They are a disgrace to their constituencies. Don’t these idiots ever bother to watch their own old video clips? Don’t they understand that everything anyone says in this day and age is written in cyberspace forever? Do they think that we have forgotten their stupidity and outright lies that drove our nation into a pair of decade long wars and all but destroyed our economy. Without that war, our national debt would be half what it is today and thousands of American kids that are dead or maimed, would be alive or whole right now. That’s the legacy that McCain and Graham sold for Bush/Cheney. If they had any integrity they would shut their mouths, resign from congress and disappear forever from public life.
