Sore Losers

The American political scene is currently suffering from an extremely self destructive phenomenon wherein those whose candidate lost the last election spend all their efforts during the current President’s tenure hoping and praying (now there’s a religious concept) that he will fail. I can only remember this happening once before in American politics and that was after the election of Bill Clinton.

There is nothing wrong with political debate or dissent; it’s healthy and part of the democratic process, but when a large section of the population refuses to accept the result of an election and actively works to make the current president fail that is no longer debate or dissent, that is sedition and just being a sore loser.

I grew up in a country where there was great competition at all elections but when a winner was decided, the electorate in general came together and collaborated to advance the goals of the country. That’s one of the things that made America great. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.

For eight years under the Bush/Cheney calamity we lived with incompetence, stupidity and dishonesty in our government mainly because the Democrats were not competent enough themselves to beat a candidate whose only platforms were abortion and gay marriage. (Now there’s a couple of really important national issues) Regardless, Bush was our president, whether we liked it or not and no matter how badly he performed or how much we disliked the fact that he was president, we gritted our teeth, hoped he would do better because it was in the best interests of the country that he succeed.

That’s not how the right is dealing with Obama. Like the bunch of spoiled sore losers they are, they have stamped their forked hooves and tried everything in their power to stop the government from functioning. They’re not interested in the country winning they’re only interested in Obama losing and they’ve been dumb enough to say so, out loud and in public.

Obama, a black man in white America, was elected in a virtual landslide, because he was replacing what was arguably the worst administration in the history of the nation and because his opponent, in a moment of cynical cowardice, chose as his running mate a person who was at best a joke and at worst a step down from Bush & Cheney.

It’s time all these flag waving, right wing, pseudo-patriots got the message, the country comes first. Stop acting like a bunch of spoiled children and tell the Republican clowns who represent you in congress that 100 filibusters in the first three months of the new administration is not loyal opposition, it’s an un-American attack on this country’s ability to function.
