Ego, Hubris, Stupidity & Treason

With all the noise that’s been made about Trump being a liar, one would think he’d have some tiny bit of sensitivity about being caught in obvious lies on TV but the Liar-in-Chief was tweeting this weekend that the Obama administration had given Mike Flynn the highest security clearance. The truth is; they didn’t. Flynn, having been a general, had a clearance of sorts from the military and that clearance was renewed by he military not the Obama White House.. Of course Flynn was fired by the Obama administration and as it turns out Obama later warned Trump that Flynn was trouble. None of this seems to have sunk into Trump’s lying brain and he blithely continues to lie his fat head off.

Then because Trump is psychologically unable to just keep his mouth shut, he Tweets this morning that the Senate committee has to ask Sally Yates if she knows how the information got into the papers soon after she revealed it to White House council, The inference from Trump; Yates leaked the info. The reality; the Trump White House is such a leaky boat that it could have come from anyone, even Trump himself in one of his fits of lying which he never seems to remember.

And why, when Flynn was presumably vetted for his security Chief job in the Trump administration was that vet ignored by Trump and Flynn given the job after it was revealed that he did work for Turkey that he did speak for a fee from RT the Kremlin backed broadcaster that was leading the hacks, or that he was a friend of Putin.

The noise right now is all about the Senate hearings into the Trump administrations involvement with the Russians through Mike Flynn and possibly others who worked in that administration and maybe still do. This, of course, is a situation that should not exist. It does because of the ego, stupidity, incompetence and possibly misguided loyalty of Donald Trump. Even as evidence of collusion with the Russians mounts, Trump sends Tweets attacking anyone and everyone having nothing to do with the real problem. He accuses Sally Yates of leaking, increases our troops in Afghanistan, rattles sabers a North Korea and babbles lies about healthcare. Maybe if he had listened to Obama when the former President told him not to hire Flynn, maybe if he had paid attention to Flynn’s failed vet for his post of Security Chief, maybe if he had paid attention to Sally Yates when she told his White House attorney, in no uncertain terms, that Flynn was compromised and easily open to blackmail by the Russians, maybe if he had fired Flynn on the spot instead of waiting 18 days, maybe, just maybe, he would now have an out. That’s no longer a possibility. Trump has now bitten the bullet and he and his administration will live or die on the final results of investigations by the Senate, FBI and most probably an independent prosecutor.

There was a chance of Trump sliding out of this if he had acted like a reasonable human being and paid attention to what he was doing. Instead he paid attention only to what he wanted for himself and now he is at the mercy of already unfolding circumstances.   I don’t believe that there is any indictable proof at his point that will crush Trump but with all that smoke there has to be some bit of fire and when that fire flares into an inferno it could just consume the entire administration. Will that happen? Who knows?

Trump has, thus far, been able to duck every incendiary device lobbed at him, but he made a huge mistake when he fired Sally Yates instead of listening to her. This is a sharp, honest, non-political young woman who is out to do the best job she can and that description when held up against any description of Trump showed her to be believable and the President to be underhanded and double dealing. Flynn should have been gone within minutes of Yates conversation with Trump’s lawyer. That he wasn’t, casts a spell of treason all across the administration.

Lindsay Graham, head of the Senate Committee and finally talking and acting like an intelligent human being is still more concerned with what he Russians did than what our own President and his men may have done. We already know that Russia and Putin are the enemy. What we must discover is, if our elected President has his own or the country’s best interests at heart. The answer to that question will decide the future of this administration and quite probably the country.

Watched Tom Price, Paul Ryan, Reince Pribus and every other Republican who had anything to say, lie their asses off this weekend about the new healthcare bill that the House passed and handed to the Senate.

Well, the great dictator made the move today that might actually sink him. Donald Trump, in an act of such outlandish hubris that it stunned everyone who heard it, fired the man who is investigating him and his administration for possible treason. Trump is trying to call it an action caused by Comey’s blundering, as head of the FBI but no one is really stupid enough to buy that bullshit. Maybe Trump decided that Comey and his team at the FBI were getting too close. Maybe the fat orange couldn’t take the heat. Maybe this was the dumbest move imaginable. Those who actually read or in some cases remember history are calling it Nixonian after that crook’s move in which he fired one AG after another because they wouldn’t dump Alexander Cox the special prosecutor who was breathing down Nixon’s Watergated neck. This looks very much like the same deal. As any coward would, Trump felt the heat, panicked and made a really stupid move because even if he’s innocent, and who believes that, he looks so guilty that no one will be able to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The question now becomes; will the GOP stand behind an ego driven, blundering idiot who spent most of his life as a Democrat and is now working hard to destroy the Republican Party. There would have been nothing wrong with firing Comey if he hadn’t been working on an investigation of Trump’s involvement with the Russians. Comey had made a lot of mistakes, a lot of enemies and had committed some serious blunders. But he was working on the big investigation of the Trump administration, and that should have kept any intelligent man from doing what Trump did. It’s just hard to accept that the guy who is running the most powerful nation in the world has an intelligence level just below that of a mushroom.

Sara Huckabee Sanders,, Mike Huckabee’s impossibly ignorant daughter, stepped in for the cowardly Sean Spicer at yesterday’s press conference about James Comey’s firing and proved this blog’s opinion of her. When asked why Trump had fired Comey she babbled on for minutes about Rosenstein and his qualifications but never answered the question. This is typical of Trump lackeys who can’t answer honest questions because the answers are proceeding from a dishonest source, Trump himself.

Huckabee kept trying to sell the bullshit that the investigations have been going on for a year and that there was nothing there. Unfortunately for Huckabee anyone who has had even a slight interest in the subject knows that there is so much smoke there that there has to be fire. Eventually it will be discovered and Trump will be burned to the bone.

Mark Halpern led Huckabee down the path to disaster when he asked her why there was such a hurry to fire Comey. Her answer, that once you find out someone is not competent you must act immediately was exactly what Halpern was looking for. Joe Scarborough jumped in and slammed the trap shut. Why, if there was such a rush to fire Comey, wasn’t there any rush to fire Flynn who remained in office 18 days after Trump found out he was a blackmail risk. Of course Huckabee had no answer to this.

When asked point blank if the Comey firing had to do with his part in the Russian investigation Huckabee bristled but when it was pointed out that Trump had praised Comey when he screwed with Clinton she couldn’t worm her way to any satisfactory conclusion.

The White House expects us to believe that Trump fired Comey, the head of the FBI on the recommendation of Rob Rosenstein a Deputy Attorney General who had been in office only two weeks. But then in later interviews Trump proves his lackeys to be liars when he insists that he had always intended to fire Comey himself.

The bottom line is, when the White House claimed that they fired Comey on the recommendation of a guy, Ron Rosenstein who had occupied his Deputy Attorney General position for all of two weeks, it didn’t meet the smell test. Trump originally claimed that Rosenstein sent him the letter suggesting he fire Comey, Now he claims that he was going to fire Comey from his first day in office. If you believe any of this bullshit I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I can let you have at a very good price.

Actually the story goes back much further, to Comey’s screw-up of the Hillary Clinton investigation and his public statements about it. At that time Trump was lavish with his praise of Comey and that praise continued up to his election and inauguration. But the White House would now have us believe that Trump was considering firing the man he was praising even as he was hugging him in the White House. Anybody see any problem with the narrative here?

Comey visited Rosenstein a couple of days before he was supposed to have created this letter. Comey told Rosenstein that he needed additional funds from the justice department to pursue and expand his investigation into Trump’s associations with the Russians. Rosenstein then took that information to the White House where he was supposedly instructed by Trump to write the firing letter so Trump could sign it. That was accomplished and on Wednesday, Comey was fired.

So, basically what we have here is a sitting President, under investigation for possible treason that maneuvered the firing of the guy who was running the investigation. This can only lead to two conclusions. First that Trump was terrified by the implications of Comey’s financial request because he knew that if Comey kept on digging he would find something and second that Trump was stupid enough to fire Comey under these circumstances without digesting the fact that such an action would point the finger of guilt directly at him. In other words, we have a clown in the White House that is too stupid to reason through the ramifications of his actions and who has been hubristic and venal enough to commit treason. This was the final nail for Nixon. It should be at least the first big spike for Trump.
