Comey at the Bridge

The Republicans made another bonehead move when they called FBI Director James Comey to testify at a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. These are the same blunderers that wasted $7million on the Clinton Benghazi hearing that came to naught earlier this spring. It’s like all the Republicans in the House have been reading up on Seppuku, the Japanese art of suicide.

Comey had handed them a perfect vehicle with which to attack Clinton in his news conference when he announcing that he would not recommend prosecution but that she was certainly responsible for all kind of carelessness in her handling of her emails. Given this gift from the head of the FBI all the GOP pundits had to do was run with it. It would have been good for days of news stories, ads and panel discussions, all helpful to the GOP goals. But, no, that wasn’t enough. They had to expand on it by calling Comey before them to prove that he had made a horrible mistake and should have recommended that Hillary be drawn and quartered.

Big mistake! Huge! Here was this cadre of incompetent morons trying to prove that fellow Republican, James Comey, had made this huge mistake yet every time they opened their mouths he shit down their throats. Comey was the epitome of the cool, well prepared, functional professional, teaching this bunch of blundering baboons about how American justice worked, explaining, as if to children, what was legal, what was possible and how the justice system worked. Sure many of them had been drugstore owners and garbage collectors in other lives but most of them were lawyers and should have known, or at least found out the answers to their thoughtless questions long before they asked them.

In forcing Comey to explain his actions they actually gave Hillary the out she needed, because he was adamant that she had committed no illegal act. She could not, under American law be convicted of anything but carelessness which in this country is still not a felony.

This writer did not watch the entire five hours of testimony; most of it was repetitive and boring, but I did watch enough to get a very complete grasp of the farcical nature of the whole clown show. Below the reader will find brief descriptions of some of the blundering questioning by various House members.

The first I heard question Comey was not the first of the day. It was Mark Meadows ® NC, who gave off the impression of being a rude lout who had nothing to offer except his lack of manners.

He was followed by Jim Cooper (D) TN, who made the point that congress, which receives the same classified material as did Clinton, isn’t obligated to follow the same rules in regard to security that the Executive branch or the various Cabinet members are. So maybe they should shut up and be thankful that they aren’t under consideration for the same kind of dog and pony show. He added that this Committee wouldn’t be in session if Hilary wasn’t a Democrat and running for president and that neither Collin Powell nor Condoleezza Rice, both of whom had private email systems but are both Republicans are not being called before any committees.

He was followed, a few minutes later by Gerry Connolly (D) VA who called the whole thing political theatre and mocked the Republicans on the Committee.

None of the Republicans seemed able to acknowledge that the facts weren’t available to prosecute. This seems strangely absent from their considerations. But this lack of prosecutable evidence, which is the bedrock of our justice system was universally ignored by the group mob mentality of the GOP members of the committee.

Matt Cartwright (D) PA- utterly smashed the one big point that the GOP congressmen were trying to make. Out of tens of thousands of documents the three that had classified markings, which the Right was making so much noise about, weren’t even officially classified because none of those documents had headings and without those headings the classified marks, should, according to the classified manual, be ignored. If this seems like incredible minutia you’re right, but so was the whole mess.

Ken Buck ® Colorado spoke next.  He was dumb enough to ask a question without knowing the answer ahead of time. It’s a basic tactic that no lawyer should find himself doing. He asked Comey if any nation had benefited from information that they got from Hillary’s emails and when Comey said he didn’t know, Buck folded like a cheap suit.

Ted Lieu (D) CAS, established Comey’s reputation, which is about as good a one can get. Then he pointed out that no member of this committee had any knowledge of the facts of the case they are dealing with and therefore none of them knew what they were talking about. This was probably the most valid point of the day.

John Mica ® FL, accused Comey of being involved in a conspiracy to let Hillary off. This guy has the stones of Mt. Everest but the brains of a squid. Comey recognized the insult and responded to it.

Jody Hice ® GA. This guy is too dumb to understand that because Hillary isn’t Secretary of State any longer, she is no longer subject to departmental discipline. That the government couldn’t fire someone that no longer worked for them was just too deep a concept for Hice to grasp. Despite this, some idiots elected him to Congress. That’s the real crime here. It’s pretty staggering to realize that these morons are the ones writing laws for this country.

It seems that the only time Comey lied while under oath was when Mark Walker ® NC asked him if he thought this was a witch hunt and Comey took pity on him and said, no.

I have no idea what this GOP clown show cost the country in money but it certainly cost us big time in prestige. Once again we have shown the world that we are governed by a gaggle of brain dead imbeciles who are too stupid to understand when they have been handed a gift, and far too obnoxious to accept it gratefully, and just move on. I have no idea if this particular House committee has ever done the country any good at any time under any circumstances but in the last few years they have done nothing but cost the taxpayers huge sums of money and come up with zero functional results. It’s time to tear it apart and sentence its members to life in Utah.

There is, of course a postscript to the above. Just to prove that you can’t fix stupid. The Committee, led by the severely challenged Trey Gowdy, not satisfied with costing millions in taxpayer money and not having been embarrassed enough by James Comey’s staunch replies to their mostly pathetic questions, have decided to call Attorney General Loretta Lynch and repeat their humiliation, probably by asking her what she spoke to President Clinton about when they met at an airport a few days before Comey’s announcement.

These people are just too dumb to breathe. They have definitely not reached the walk and chew gum level of intelligence necessary to function at anything near the capacity their job’s demand. We can only hope that some of their brighter constituents recognize that fact and forcibly remove them from office in November.
