Guns do kill people and if you are one of the simplistic geniuses who made up that cute little slogan about people doing the killing, you are not completely wrong, just without combat experience and grossly naïve. Picture the nutcase who mowed sown a hundred people in the Orlando club walking in with a knife or machete. Sure he’d probably hurt a couple of people, maybe even killed one or two before he was dragged to the ground and beaten to death. That didn’t happen because he had an automatic weapon. That’s the bottom line.
The tragedy in Orlando seems to have brought out everything bad in this country. Of course all the worst stuff came from our garbage candidate on the Right, Donald Trump who used it as a stage to bray out his messages of hatred and bigotry, even while accusing the President of being involved. Trump is psychotic and needs to spend a good deal of time in a padded room.
Now, we will get all the rhetoric from all the politicians seeking their minute in the sun; all the senseless, useless, reworked ideas that do not work, will not work, cannot work. We have heard the speeches about deeper background checks, more stringent mental investigation and yes, even arming more people so we can have some real gunfights. The reality, and a big part of the country doesn’t want to face the reality, is that there is only one answer, only one thing that will at least partially work, and that is to get the guns out of the hands of those who have no reason to have them and to do that we must to get certain guns out of the hands of everybody. In the case of automatic weapons that means everybody. Every multiple killing in this country in the last few years has been carried out with automatic weapons. They are what make multiple killings possible. And what makes them extremely condemnable is that their only reason for being is to kill multiple people. So the geniuses in this country have created an object whose only purpose is murder and they have made it legal and all but unrestricted.
Screw the Second Amendment; nuts with automatic weapons are killing our children. It’s time to stop the ridiculous drivel about the right to bear arms; nonsense that we all know is just phony rhetoric. Anyone who can read English knows what the Second Amendment really says and it doesn’t say that every psychotic dipshit who doesn’t know how to fight like a man is entitled to carry a weapon of war.
This country is not at war. No one in this country needs a gun, certainly not an automatic weapon. You want to hunt? Okay, prove that you know how to use a gun. Prove that you can hit a sensible target with one shot at a reasonable range or give it up. Hunters who prove that they are responsible enough and skilled enough to use a weapon that kills should be allowed to have one single shot .30 caliber rifle, That’s it! Nothing more. If you can’t kill anything in this country with that weapon, you have no business owning any weapon.
Those who prove a need for a handgun, either professional or otherwise should be allowed to own one handgun. Absolutely no automatic weapons should ever be owned by anyone. That line of crap about needing guns to protect us against the military is pure unadulterated bullshit! That line about protecting us from the military is the fantasy of pathetic little pissants who need to carry a gun to make them feel like men.
There are a lot of automatic weapons in this country but if you gathered them all together and put them in he hands of skilled fighters, they wouldn’t stand a chance against any military unit in the army. They would be out skilled and much more important outgunned. So that argument is just a lie.
The more information that comes in about this killer in Orlando the more we realize that all our ideas about what to do abut guns are wrong. He was, it seems mentally unstable and yet he had a license. He was on a terrorist suspect list and yet he was legally allowed to own guns. He had a history of domestic abuse and yet no one took away his weapons. All this goes to prove that none of our gun laws are effective and that unless we want to continue to arm unstable, criminal, political or other problem people, and allow them to slaughter our children we have to come to one and only one conclusion. We have to pass one simple law. No automatic weapons for anyone.
This guy in Orlando would have probably killed a couple of people if he went into that club with just a couple of handguns but he wouldn’t have killed or injured over a hundred. President Obama made this same point in a speech this week. This should be clear to anyone, but supposedly respected leaders still find fault with the idea of getting rid of the guns. Why? Because they are cheap punks on the take from the NRA, from the gun lobby and from huge corporations that make billions a year by providing the means to kill your kids. Owning an automatic weapon should be a federal offense with a minimum twenty-year sentence with no early release. Selling one, profiting from the murder of children should be twice that penalty.
The gun bearing creeps, all keep going back to the Second Amendment, but even if you really can’t understand the language in that botched piece of legislation, it should be clear that when it says that people have a right to bear arms, it doesn’t specify what arms are. This piece of legislation was written in 1780’s. The arms it speaks to can only be the weapons that existed at that time; swords and muskets. As they were only weapons that existed, they had to be the arms that were referred to in that document. The men who authored the Constitution were very smart but they were not prescient. They could not predict that two hundred years later we would have available to us, the weapons of slaughter that modern technology has provided.
So, if you are a strict Constitutionalist it’s very simple. People can carry swords and muskets because that’s what the Second Amendment was referring to. Anything else, we need new legislation to cover it.
You may consider the musket and sword argument as frivolous but there’s nothing frivolous about the slaughter that is going on in our streets. Over a hundred people were killed or wounded in that club in Orlando last weekend but 62 more people were shot in separate incidents in Chicago on the same weekend. That’s even worse because it took 62 people with access to guns to do that damage while there was only one miscreant in Orlando. That access to weapons, which the people in Chicago and the man in Orlando all had, is the problem. If the guns weren’t available, no one would have them. We all think that bad guys who want guns can always get them… sometimes. But it hasn’t always been as easy as it is now and other societies have been able to curb that access to a much greater degree than we have.
Yes, we have to strengthen our gun laws to keep the nuts and the bad guys from having access to any gun, but if we are ever to have any kind of peace in this country we have to get all automatic weapons off the streets. They have to be rounded up and collected and the penalty for possessing one has to be so draconian that it will forever prevent the gun nuts from even considering ignoring the law.
In this country, it’s already been proven that we are incapable of creating any kind of law that prevents the wrong people from getting their hands on guns. So let’s, at least temporarily, forget that as a goal. Let’s concentrate on getting the guns that do the most damage out of everyone’s hands. It’s real simple! No background checks to screw up, no mental tests to ignore, no, no fly categories for the FBI to forget about, just no guns. Absolutely no automatic weapons bought, sold or owned in the continental United States.
And who will suffer if concept becomes a law? Certainly no one who you think would be safe owning one. The people who you wouldn’t mind owning an automatic weapon don’t need them. They aren’t pathetic psychopaths like Omar of Orlando; they can solve their problems without killing a lot of innocent people.
There is only one answer to this problem. It is simple, straightforward and lacking the element of human failure. It is absolutely no automatic weapons, for anyone, for any reason, at any time. Period!
