Obama + GOP-

The Republican candidates are having a field day attacking Barak Obama over the state of the Middle East. This is fairly harmless because anyone who can think for themselves and is minimally informed about what the hell is going on over there knows that Obama is, wherever possible, doing exactly the right thing. I have heard at least six of the GOP candidates harangue their listeners about the fact that Obama is doing nothing to crush ISIS but when asked about what they would do they come up with no answer or one that is remarkably similar to the one being implemented by the guy they are attacking.

It is definitely time for us all to take a breath and realize that Obama, a President without the support of either house of congress has had a remarkably productive couple of years. No mater what he does with the universally unmanageable Middle East he is probably accomplishing more there than any of his big-mouthed opponents could. He has been a hell of a President. Consider this:

When the Supreme Court finally found it in its rotting soul to knock down the suit against the ACA there were those of us naïve enough to believe that, that would settle the whole ridiculous fight once and for all. Unfortunately the decision has made the Republicans even more crazy than usual. They are all over it, spewing venom and insane opinion, backed by false facts.

We all knew that this was a political rather than an economic or health care fight but there were some of us who believed that once the court had come up with a decision, the Right would accept it and get on with the business of the country. This, it seems, is not to be. There are, after all, elections to be won or lost and in the Republican world, that always takes precedence, over the good of the nation.,

To those who can think logically, the decision by the Right to continue this fight seems insane. Despite the lies being promulgated about it, this program is good for the majority of the American people. The big lie is that it costs too much but every reputable source of information says that it is saving most of the country money, that it will help reduce the deficit and that, in most cases, it is providing better healthcare.

Sure there are problems with the program but they could already have been solved if not for the obstinate refusal of the Right to accept it, fix it, and move on. Marco Rubio babbles about getting rid of it if he’s elected and lies about having alternatives to it. Really Marco? What alternatives? The Right has had years to develop a better program and all they have to show for it is the statement that they have alternatives, none of which can they produce. Not that anyone blames them. It’s impossible to produce that which does not exist. Like so much else that comes out of the GOP, the existence of a GOP health care alternative is nothing but a big lie.

How do we know it’s a lie? Easy, if it were real, they would be publishing the facts of it and trumpeting them to the skies, instead of just lying about it in futile, vitriolic speeches.

Every discussion comes back to one single point. If you have any reason to be against Obamacare, other than the fact that it was instituted by Barak Obama, please state it, but don’t give me the bullshit about cost, or that people are having trouble making it work for them. Some people have trouble brushing their teeth. Some people are too stupid to breathe.

The basis for the Court’s decision was: the intent of congress in passing the law, not the imprecise language of the law. The whole attack was phony. It was based on a four-word typo and Roberts clearly saw that. Interestingly enough, he defended, in several parts of his decision, where Scalia had used precisely the same argument in other cases to make his point but wanted to deny Roberts that argument when the discussion involved the ACA.

The Court has been very busy of late, also ruling that gay marriage is now legal in the land. This caused the Right to implode. Huckabee said that the Supreme Court cannot overrule God. This of course supposes that Huckabee speaks to God, which he probably thinks he does.

Bobby Jindal, who has of late, developed the worst case of diarrhea of the mouth in political history, blurted out that this ruling was a direct attack on religious freedom. Only if you think it makes gay sex mandatory, Bobby. I know you’ll be disappointed but it doesn’t.

So it was a hell of a couple of months for Barak Obama. In what is actually slightly more than a week, we saw the federal housing laws settled in his favor, the ACA fortified, gay marriage accepted, the confederate flag identified as a symbol of hatred and bigotry and removed from capitols all over the south. Sure, he didn’t personally push each of these things through, but they were all parts of his agenda; issues on which he made it perfectly clear, where he stood. With all the bullshit this man has had to put up with during his presidency, this is definitely an affirmation that he stood for the right and that he fought off the armies of evil that have been generated by the Right. He is to be congratulated.

And for those who don’t like what he’s doing in the Middle East but don’t have any viable ideas of their own: STOP your complaining. LOOK at what the problem really is, not what you would like it to be. LISTEN to what Obama is really doing to solve the problem. If you can manage these three simple steps you will definitely find the solution to your groundless complaints. It won’ help you politically but it just might help to bring some sort of peace to the Middle East.

  1. Urban Curmudgeon,
So dead on. After all these years, I’m still jealous that you are so much more articulate than I am.
However, I am just as elated that you and others are able to say the things I wish I could say.
    Thanks William.
    Keep it up,
    Arlen

  2. Bill,

It’s time for you to replace some of the jerk pundits we see too often on TV.
I’m fed up with probing questions about what underwear they prefer.

    Anyway! Happy New Year!
